Stag Horn Fern!

This is my beautiful new fern that I purchased at Sprout in Brooklyn. The people who work there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about each plant. Sprout offers a class the first Thursday of each month to enhance the green thumb for novices. Contact the store for further details.

The plant grows with one kind of frond against the tree and another type jutting out like a flattened male deer's antler, away from the tree, hence the name Staghorn fern. The later fronds are the fertile spore-carrying kind. If the conditions are right the spores will germinate naturally on surrounding trees

Tree house!

I'm on the beautiful west coast of Florida right now but for some reason I'm dreaming about being in this. Perhaps it will be my "country" home one day.

Lewis

I love Alison Lewis's clothing line!
Checkout the video on the website, if the clothes aren't screaming out "buy me, wear me, love me" this will.

Quote of the day.

"I must learn to love the fool in me--the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my fool." -- Theodore I. Rubin, MD

Oh Tuscany!

I wish you were tomorrow...

Dirt Cake!

Never in a million years would Mother dearest EVER let me consume such a "fowl" dessert. However, Astrid and I made the worlds best recessionist dessert called Dirt Cake on Sunday as a pre-celebratory Birthday activity for Astrid. It was a huge hit at our dinner party especially with the grown ups (there were a handful of children under 10 who wanted nothing to do with it)! It's cheap and a great activity in this brutal economy. Happy Birthday Astrid!
